Replastering is the most common pool renovation we perform in the San Fernando Valley, and it is also the one homeowners have the most questions about. Prices quoted around Los Angeles can range from under $6,000 to well over $15,000, so it helps to understand what actually moves the number.
The biggest factor: linear feet of perimeter
Pool contractors measure plaster jobs by the pool's perimeter in linear feet, not by gallons. A typical Valley pool from the 1960s–80s measures 70–90 linear feet. That is exactly why our plaster special — up to 90 linear feet starting at $6,990 — covers the majority of residential pools we see.
Larger free-form pools, pool-and-spa combinations, and pools with raised walls or extensive steps and benches have more surface area and take more material and labor.
Finish type: plaster, quartz, or pebble
Standard white plaster is the most affordable finish and still looks beautiful when properly applied and maintained. Quartz aggregate finishes add color and improve durability for a moderate premium. Mini pebble finishes cost the most but last the longest — often 20 years or more — and hide chemistry stains far better than plain plaster.
Repairs and add-ons
If the old plaster is hollow or delaminating, a full chip-out is safer than a bond coat and adds labor. Cracks, failed tile, loose coping, and damaged light niches are best repaired while the pool is empty. We itemize each of these so you can see exactly what you are paying for.
Most clients also take the opportunity to replace waterline tile or upgrade to a variable-speed pump while the pool is drained, which saves a second mobilization later.
